MOUNT CLEMENS — A former Roseville High School French teacher accused of having sex with her teenage classroom aide hugged family, friends and co-workers on Wednesday after a Macomb County Circuit judge sentenced her to three years’ probation.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office requested that Janelle Batkins, 42, be “incarcerated” — either prison, jail or a tether — after she pleaded no contest in May to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Instead, Judge Mark Switalski said Batkins, who had no criminal history, is “an ideal candidate for probation.” She must also continue counseling, complete 240 hours of community service and register as a sex offender….continued
